Psalm 125

  1. They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.
  2. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.
  3. For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.
  4. Do good, O Lord, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.
  5. As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.

Psalm 125 offers assurance and confidence to those who trust in the Lord. The psalmist compares the stability of those who trust in God to the unshakeable nature of Mount Zion, which stands as a symbol of permanence and security. Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people, providing protection and security for all eternity.

The psalmist declares that the wicked will not be allowed to exert their power over the righteous, lest the righteous be tempted to turn to iniquity. Instead, the psalmist prays for God’s goodness to be bestowed upon those who are upright in heart, emphasizing the importance of integrity and righteousness.

On the other hand, those who turn away from righteousness and choose crooked paths will be led away with the workers of iniquity. However, the psalm concludes with a declaration of peace upon Israel, signifying God’s ultimate victory and protection over His people.

Psalm 125 serves as a reminder of the security and protection that come from trusting in the Lord. It encourages believers to remain steadfast in their faith, knowing that God surrounds them with His love and care, and that ultimately, peace will prevail for those who walk in righteousness.
